Happy Veganuary!
You're here, which means that you are considering trying Veganuary. Whether it's for 1 meal, 1 day, or 1 month. I'm proud of you for trying. However, it can be a bit overwhelming trying to come up with vegan recipes. Trust me, I've been there.
I've made a list of my favorite vegan recipes, that you can try for Veganuary 2023. Scroll down to see the list.
What Is Veganuary?
Veganuary is a yearly 'event' for the whole month of January. The main goal is to eat vegan food and avoid animal products, such as meat, fish, eggs and cheese.
What are The Benefits Of Going Vegan?
Feeling better physically and mentally
One of the main benefits of going vegan is that you'll feel better physically and mentally. You might go through a transition period at first, where you feel a bit tired and irritated. It can last from a few days to a month, it really depends on your body, and everyone reacts differently. Personally, I didn't feel it, I only felt the positive changes and it was pretty instant. Meat and dairy are both very heavy for the body and the mind and it makes you feel tired and bloated, whereas vegan food will wake you up and energize you.
Weight-Loss & Clear Skin
Another benefit is that you'll probably lose a bit of weight. Transitioning from meat and dairy to a vegan diet means that you will eat less fat and sugar, that is if you follow a rich and healthy vegan diet (stay away from the processed stuff). Instead, your diet will be filled with vegetables, lentils, nuts, fruit, etc. Another benefit you'll probably notice is your skin. It will clear up and make you look fresher and more alive. This is due to all the fresh foods you'll be eating and also because you won't be eating/drinking whey and casein (the proteins in cow's milk) that are linked to acne and bad skin.
Better for the environment and the animals
The best thing about going vegan is that you'll be contributing to less pain and pollution.
Did you know that it takes 1,847 gallons/6,991 litres of water to produce 1 pound/500g of beef!? That's enough water to fill 39 bathtubs all the way to the top. Just to put it in perspective, 1 kg of potatoes only needs 284 liters of water, how crazy is that?
In terms of your carbon footprint, researchers at Loma Linda University in California found that vegans have the smallest carbon footprint, generating a 41.7 percent smaller volume of greenhouse gases than meat-eaters do. So it's safe to say that you'll be doing the planet a favor by eating a vegan diet.
In my opinion, the most important and biggest benefit of them all is that you won't be contributing to the killing of innocent animals.
